What are the dates for the trek?
Wednesday, June 22 through Saturday, June 25, 2016

Is there a cost?
All costs will be paid by the ward and stake.

Where is the location for the trek?
Trek will be held in Wyoming, along the church-owned pioneer trail at Sixth Crossing and Martin's Cove.

Who can go on the trek?
All Roosevelt West Stake youth age 14 years old by July 1, 2012 or those going into 9th grade this fall.

Can I go on the trek if I am a graduating high school senior?
Yes, of course you are invited.

What are the requirements to go on the trek?
Everyone who goes on trek is required to turn in the proper registration/medical/media release form, attend trek firesides, obtain items on the clothing and equipment checklists, and prepare both spiritually and physically.

When do I need to return my Registration/Medical/Media Release form?

What should I be doing now to prepare for the trek?
Your trek experience will depend on how well you prepare yourself spiritually and physically.
The Trail of Faith Award outlines this preparation. Incorporate Young Women Personal Progress and Young Men Duty to God requirements into your preparation. Research a pioneer from your own family or another family for whom you will be honoring during the trek.

How do I research a pioneer name for whom I will trek?
Refer to the link entitled IDEAS FOR DISCOVERING OUR PIONEER HERITAGE.

How much walking will we do?
We will walk and pull handcarts about 6 to 10 miles each day. It will be important to be in shape and to have sturdy tennis shoes/hiking boots. Start now to exercise and to break in your shoes.

How do I obtain pioneer clothes?
Each trek participant is responsible for providing two sets of pioneer clothing for themselves.
Descriptions and sewing patterns can be found on the CLOTHING link of this site. Start to sew or collect your clothing as early as possible.

When do I need to have all of my personal equipment together?
Your bucket should be packed, ready to go, and dropped off at the Stake Center the night before trek, Tuesday, June 21 between 6-8 pm. Your buckets and sleeping bags will be loaded on to trailers that night. The morning we depart, you will need to be dressed for trek. Bring your essentials (ie. toothbrush, medicine) in a small bag or sling pack. Everyone must bring your own sack breakfast and lunch for that first day.

Will everybody ride the buses?
All youth and Ma's & Pa’s will ride the bus. Some committee members will travel in separate support vehicles.

Can I come to Trek late or leave early?
No. All youth attending trek must arrive and leave with the main group.

Can I wear contact lenses?
The use of contact lenses is discouraged. Wyoming can be windy and the handcarts might make a lot of dust. Plan now to have a pair of glasses you can use. If you must wear contacts have a sturdy pair of sunglasses on hand to protect your eyes.

What will we eat on the trek?
You will need to bring your own sack breakfast and lunch for the first day of trek. The rest of the meals and between-meal snacks will be provided. You may preview the meal menus as listed on the TIMELINE & SCHEDULE link. If you think you need additional healthy snacks, please remember that they must fit into your own 5-gallon bucket. Remember that junk-food makes you sluggish!

Can I bring my iPod or cell phone?
No. You may not bring cell phones, MP3 players or gaming devices.

What is the most common, yet easily-solved problem trek participants experience along the trail?
Hydration! Start getting well-hydrated weeks before the trek. That means drinking a lot of water in advance! There will be plenty of water available (and no worries--porta-potties) during the trek, but that is not early enough to prepare your body. Make it easy on your body and start drinking lots of water now.
